Versions, Versions, Versions! Be a Smart Shopper.

ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ has been in Second Life since 2011. Over 7 years, we've made many improvements & released a number of updates. In order to ensure the best end-user experience, it's always best to have plants that are at the current version or that have been properly updated so their offspring will be the current version..

Versions & Versions

For a variety of reasons, the ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ update process doesn't change the plant you "update." Instead, it sets up the plant so that its offspring will have the updated version. This means that to know the version & update status of a plant you need to check two things:

GUEST MENU
If you don't see a Stats button, the
Seller has plant set to "Private."

Plant Version - Click on the plant & select "Stats" from the menu. This is the version of the plant you are looking at. If you're shopping & the plants are set "Private" -- with no "Stats" option in the Guest Menu -- our recommendation is to move on to another seller. (Some auctions set plants as "Private" to cut down on chat spam; in that case, the auctioneer should be posting Stats and Parent info for you anyway.)

Inventory Item Properties Box
shows Ovule Version.

Ovule Version - Inside every plant is an "ovule." This is what produces offspring. If the mother plant has been updated, the ovule may have a different version from the plant that contains it.

To check the ovule version, right-click on the plant & select "Edit" from the menu. Then navigate to the Contents tab of the Edit window, right-click on the ovule, select "Properties" & note the number in the Description field of the Inventory Item Properties box.

Important: A plant's version doesn't have to match the ovule version.

So What Does a Smart Shopper Need to Know?
  1. If the plant is any Version 4 & the ovule is the latest version, you're good to go. Of course, the best case scenario is that both the plant & the ovule are the latest version!

  2. If the plant is a Version 2 or Version 3 & the ovule is the same version or Version 3.03, the plant is OK but has not been updated. Since this update requires a two step "bridge" process, the seller is avoiding some work (or doesn't know any better). Depending on how the plant is priced, you may want to "negotiate."

  3. If the plant is a Version 2 or Version 3 & the ovule says "bridge," the plant has not been fully updated.  This will take an additional generation to fix, so definitely look at the pricing on these items. And if you aren't familiar with the bridge process, you might want to just keep looking.

  4. If the ovule version is lower than the plant version, the plant has been improperly updated. This is fixable -- but it suggests the seller is paying less than 100% attention to their wares.

  5. If the plant is a Version 2 or Version 3 & the ovule is the latest version, the plant has been improperly updated.  It can be fixed, if you know what you're doing, but you are either dealing with a grower who doesn't know what they're doing or a grower who's in a hurry to take your money. The official advice in this case is "buyer beware!"

  6. It really doesn't matter for males. The ovule in males is nonfunctional. Your main concern with males is whether or not the plant itself is the current version, so you have all the latest & greatest features.

A Cure for the Summertime Blues

ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Growers & Breeders Group

pOT pOT hUNT 2018

Complete the Growers & Breeders Group pOT pOT Hunt Tour de Grows!

The starting point is @ ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Central by the front door kiosk on June 22nd.
Simply find the starting vendor at ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Central by the front entrance & Kiosk
(Hint: It's a pOT pOT.)

Once you pay your L$420 Entry Fee to the first vendor, you'll be entered into the Hunt & receive  pOT pOT #1 + a landmark to the next location.

The hunt will be completed 1-7 in order (so no skipping a "head" LOL).

While you're  hunting we will be preparing a pHUN pOT pOT pARTY on June 30th where the pOT pOT hUNT ends. You'll be able to complete your pOT pOTs set and get the special NEW LE!

So get your gear on and start huntin' and have pHUN.

You must visit each host site in order,  1-2-3-4-5-6-7.

Each vendor requires you to "own" the pOT pOT from the preceding location. (Example: To use Vendor #3, you have to own the pOT pOT given out by Vendor #2, which in turn requires you to own the pOT pOT from Vendor #1.

The seventh (last) pOT pOT hUNT vendor be available June 30th only at the Hunt Finale Party.
The last vendor awards the final pOT pOT and the NEW LE!!!

Pharmers who host grows are encouraged to put out "decoy" pOT pOTs or place their pOT pOT hUNT vendor in an out-of-the-way spot to make sure you look over their wares.

The Spectrum 7 Set is a set of seven medium potency, medium growth rate, medium sized bushy outdoor varieties with no FX. They are distinguished by bold tint genetics that produce a full Spectrum of variant foliages (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo & Violet), packaged in a collectible crayon box seed pack!

As the infamous Roy G. Biv said, "It's a rainbow!"

HOW IT WORKS

Spectrum 7 Boxed Set
There are seven host locations for the hunt, beginning & ending at ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Central. From there, you'll visit the personal pharms of some top growers!

There is a L$420 entry fee for the pOT pOT Hunt.  Simply find the starting vendor at ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Central.  (Hint: It's a pOT pOT.) Buy its contents for L$420. Then you're entered in the hunt. You'll receive the first pOT pOT & a landmark to the next location.

Each subsequent host will have a Hunt pOT pOT vendor, providing a pOT pOT & the next landmark. These vendors are free -- you already paid!

The seventh (last) Hunt pOT pOT vendor will give you a pOT pOT & an invitation to the Hunt Finale Party. At the party, there will be a Hunt Completion Vendor. This vendor awards your REWARD!

You must complete the hunt & "own" all 7 Hunt 18 pOT pOTs to use the Hunt Completion Vendor.

Pharmers who host grows may put out "decoy" pOT pOTs or place their pOT pOT Hunt 18 vendor in an out-of-the-way spot to make sure you get a good look over their STASH.

There's a limit of  one Hunt pOT pOT per avatar from each vendor & one NEW LE from the Hunt Completion Vendor  Hunt 18 vendors to not permit "gifting" to another avatar.

Get HIGH with a little help from your friends.

Hunt pOT pOTs are copy -- which means you can make as many of them as you need -- but they're no-trans, which means the only way to get them is to go hunting!

Each Spectrum 7  plant has a new basic tint to work into your grows (Cardinal, Marmalade, Canary, Jade, Cobalt, Indigo & Magenta). The ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Team has been slow to release new tints into the gene pool, so the Spectrum 7 Set represents a massive opportunity for creative breeding!

However, everyone receives only one seed of each color in the boxed set. You'll want to network with other group members, watch group chat & keep an eye on auctions to build up your stock!

HAPPY HUNTING!

Updated Genetic Odds Cheatsheet

Since the researchers at the ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Genome Project published the last Genetic Odds Table, several updates have brought us FX inheritance from males, tint and glow traits, as well as the ability to use Plant Auxin to get a second chance at higher yield plants. So it's "high time" for an update to the "Cheatsheet!" You can use these numbers to predict and plan your breeding strategies, as well as to help you evaluate your stock when trading or selling.

A Technical Caveat

The percentages are taken straight from the "genetic engine" scripts, but they're really only approximate. That's because the Linden Scripting Language (LSL) -- and many other programming languages --  uses "pseudo random numbers" rather than truly random numbers. Moreover, LSL generates random numbers in batches, which means that fetching several random numbers at about the same time on the same sim may not be truly independent events. At any rate, it's close enough that the "genetic odds" in the table aren't too far off, and the unpredictability adds a little fun (and uncertainty) to breeding!

Calculating Odds for Multiple Traits

Leaving aside the possibility that "random" events in LSL may not be truly independent, the odds of independent events happening together are multiplicative. Thus, the odds of germinating a seed and getting a 3-seed dwarf female would be 2.3% (odds of 3-seed female) times 2.0% (odds of dwarf) for a 0.046% chance (less than one in 2,200 odds). That's kind of uncommon!

Beating the Odds

Obviously, one way to get those 3-seed dwarf females is to germinate lots & lots & lots & lot of  ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ seeds. Naturally, the ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Team encourages this approach, because it puts more money in our pocket! But most experienced growers take the long view, isolating dwarf genetic lines, taking a chance with Plant Auxin & waiting for that 3-seed female to hit! Happy Growing!
