SL Server Craziness & the 4.19.910 Update

First things first, the 4.19.910 Update is now being distributed through the ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ HUD Server. To get a copy of the new HUD 4.20191002, simply wear (or log in while wearing) your old HUD. Use the built-in Update Transmogrifier (CSLUT) in the HUD to update your Version 4 plants so their offspring will be the latest version.

Version 4.19.910 addresses a glitch in version 909 where some (but not all) plants treated with Plant Auxin did not exhibit the 25% growth spurt. Version 4.19.910 also includes a number of script optimizations that make a significant reduction in how much memory they use to run. For the ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Team, the memory reduction is perhaps as important as the glitch fix, but most Growers & Breeders will welcome seeing Auxin back to normal!

This brings us to the craziness that led us to advise Growers & Breeders not to harvest plants during late September...

On September 13, Linden Labs began updating server software during scheduled rolling restarts. This process began on mainland sims -- where we first identified & reported the issue -- and spread grid-wide over the following week. While, Linden Labs says the new server software contained major improvements in operational speed & lag reduction, they overlooked a specific event that is very important to many breedables (not just ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ) .

Here's a simple explanation. When an object rezzes out another object, like when a mother plant pops out a seed brick during harvesting, a programming event called "on_rez" is triggered. The parent object can pass a bit of data called a "start parameter" to the offspring & the "on_rez" event is supposed to be able to "hear" the start parameter, potentially using it to initialize itself.

Unfortunately, the new SL Server code let the parent object send the start parameter faster than the child object could start its own scripts. So, the child wasn't able to hear the start parameter & properly initialize itself.  In our case, the offspring seed brick is supposed to send a message back to the mother that it's rezzed, initialized & is ready to receive its genetic information, but that wasn't happening. And that resulted in the crazy brick-textured mothers, non-functional floating dwarf plants & seed bricks that germinated as epics.

As we waited for Linden Labs' tech folks to research the issue, which affected a number of breedables & other scripted systems, we were logging "stack overflow errors" (which means "out of script memory"), so we began working to optimize certain script functions & ended up with some significant improvements. Of course, the stack overflow errors were triggered by the server bug, but we were able to make some lemonade out of the SL "lemons."

Linden Labs has reverted to the SL Server code that was working prior to the September 13 debacle. Since they are aware of the problem, we sincerely hope that they'll be able to "get it right" with future server updates.

The first 4.19.910 Limited Edition plants will come out later this month. In the meantime, follow your usual update procedures to "fix" your older plants. If you're an Auxin addict, you'll want to move quickly; if you're not, just take it easy.

Happy Growing! It's 4:20 somewhere!

What's this Mutagen stuff?

MUTAGEN is the latest addition to ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ growing tricks! This special elixir boosts the chances of getting giant, dwarf, superweed & full ultra mutations by a factor of 10! That's right, if you dose a plant with MUTAGEN, you get a 10% chance for those mutations that are normally 1%!

It's similar to Plant Auxin but with a twist. MUTAGEN must be applied before germination. MUTAGEN can't be applied to growing plants, just seeds or seed bricks.

Here's how it works:
  1. Rez out a single-dose vial or a 10-dose jug of MUTAGEN within 3 meters of the seed or seed brick you want to treat.
  2. Before germination, you'll see a "Mutagen" button in the plant menu just under the "HUD On" button.
  3. Germinate the seed or seed brick. If you get a mutation, you'll see the same messages as always during germination. You'll just see those messages more often!
  4. The "Mutagen" button in the menu changes to "Auxin." You can dose the plant with Auxin at this time.
MUTAGEN only works for Version 4.19.909 and higher seeds. To take advantage of this & other new features, use the new 4.20190820 HUD to update your existing plants.

During September, the ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Team will be making it easy to give MUTAGEN a try. Every purchase of Standard Seeds (regular or bulk packs) will include a promo bag of four (4) MUTAGEN single-dose vials. (The promotional gift bag is delivered separately from the seed pack, so be sure to wait on both items to be delivered & remember to "accept" both items.)

All ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Growers & Breeders Group members can pick up a GROUP GIFT containing four (4) MUTAGEN vials. And we'll be giving them away at auctions, too.

MUTAGEN is not for everyone or every breeding situation, obviously. If you're maintaining a pure line, obviously you don't want to use this stuff. But if you're after size, potency, or growth rate, it's worth trying it out.

Four packs of MUTAGEN are available at the store for L$50 a pack & 10-dose jugs are priced at L$125. So it's really affordable. Give it a try!

A Word About Intellectual Property & Our Brand Name

As the secondary market for ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ plants expands, we need to repeat some basic things from our Terms of Service. Secondary market stores & auction houses are welcome to use the word  ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ (or it's plain English version, "CannabiSL") in advertising & search listings. In fact, this is good for us as well as the advertiser.

However, using the phrase ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Central (or "CannabiSL Central") in a search listing or advertisement is blatantly misleading & is essentially an attempt to mislead potential customers. We request that this not be done, reserve the right to file complaints with Linden Labs & also will encourage our customers not to patronize businesses that try to leech our traffic.

Regardless of whether or not you use ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ products and thus assent to the Terms of Service above, the use of the ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ marque and it's plain-English variant "CannabiSL" is protected (trademarked). Use of the ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ name and logo is subject to discretionary approval by the ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ Team.  We prefer settling problems of this nature amiably and amicably, but if necessary,  will pursue all appropriate options needed to defend our brand and reputation, as well as to ensure that our growers' interests are protected. If in doubt, just ask!

    2019 Mardi Gras

Flagboy & Big Chief LE Plants

The parades are rolling & we've got two ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ LEs based on traditional New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian themes are ready to laissez les bon temps rouler!

    Big Chief

BIG CHIEF is a large, high potency, fast growing outdoor plant with "Mambo Hoops" FX.

FLAGBOY is a tiny nugz with medium potency & growth rate.

    Both plants sing, too!

    Flagboy
These very special Limited Edition plants pay tribute to the Mardi Gras Indians, traditional African-American marching clubs that are world famous for their elaborate costumes, rivalries & lore.

Prior to emancipation, it was not uncommon for escaped African-American slaves in Louisiana to find refuge with indigenous Native Americans. The Mardi Gras Indian tradition remembers this legacy.
    Child's Mardi Gras Indian Costume

There are approximately 40 Mardi Grad Indian "tribes" in New Orleans. Members of "tribes" spend a lot of money & time through the year to create ornate costumes, often with intricate beadwork. Each tribe is headed by a "Big Chief," who sets the marching route & controls his marchers.

Tribes have a "spyboy" who scouts several blocks ahead of the proposed route. If the spyboy sees a rival tribe nearby, he lets the rest of the tribe know fast! Tribes also have a "flagboy" who carries the tribal flag.

When two marching tribes meet, there is a ritual meeting of the chiefs, typically including a lot of insults directed at the costumes of the rivals. In years past, violence sometimes ensued, but agreements between the "Uptown" & "Downtown" groups of tribes have mostly eliminated this from Mardi Gras today.

This colorful African-American carnival tradition is remembered in songs like "Iko Iko"  & "Big Chief." The legendary Neville Brothers band originated within the Wild Tchopitoulas tribe.

Don't let your flag catch on fire!

2-packs (L$420) & bulk packs (L$2100) of each variety are available separately at the dock!

    IMPORTANT TECHNICAL BULLETIN

Because of a quality assurance issue, Generation 1 OG GROUNDHOG plants (grown from seed) may have problems and produce script errors during harvesting. We apologize for this issue.

    THE FIX IS SIMPLE:
BEFORE HARVESTING A GEN 1 OG GROUNDHOG PLANT, UPDATE IT USING THE LATEST HUD UPDATER (Version 4.19.907).

Again, we're sorry for the inconvenience. If you experience harvesting problems after upgrading, please send a notecard in-world to Djeaux Farrasco, since your problems may be unrelated to this technical bulletin.

    New Year, New Version

The new ḈḁṇṇḁḇḭṦḼ HUD 4.2019 will begin pushing out soon to bring you Version 4.19.907!

The rare but dreaded Gen 1 standard throwback glitch bites even the most experienced growers. You know the story. You're harvesting a 48th generation Hendrix Haze you've worked a cool FX into. You click the Harvest button, and... you get a Gen 1 Northern Lights. Bummer. And danged if we can fix it within the limits SL gives us!

    So... IT'S NOT A BUG, IT'S A FEATURE!

With Version 4.19.907, if you're afflicted by the Gen 1 throwback, you'll get one of four new EPIC varieties: Alaskan TF, Chocolate Thai, Cindy 99 & G13! And that's the only way those EPIC strains can be obtained! EPIC seeds will not be sold! No, it's not going to be a Gen 49 Hendrix with purple fog, but it won't be another darn Northern Lights! It will be something rare!

We've also changed the logic for inheritance of the lighting trait. For seven years, it's been impossible to breed an indoor/outdoor line "up" to full outdoor lighting. It's now possible! Obsessive-compulsive breeders can now restore "heirloom" LE strains that have been hopelessly contaminated with the indoor lighting gene! (Stats now include numeric values for lighting, too.)

Finally, for those who like to decor prize plants after harvesting, Version 4.19.907 will save you some script memory. Decor plants now retain scripts only if they are needed to support sound FX. Plants that don't "sing" don't keep their scripts. It's not much, but if you're a decor collector it adds up!

Version 4.19.907 also includes a lot of other small optimizations & code clean-ups. If you're a glutton for boredom, just ask Djeaux about them!

And oh yes, we've made some minor tweaks to make the menu layouts in HUD 4.2019 a little more organized!

    VERSION 4.19.907 RECAP

        - Introduces 4 "epic" standard varieties produced only by the Gen 1 throwback glitch
        - Changes logic in lighting inheritance & provides numeric values in stats.
        - Retains CSL Lib script in decor plants only if needed for FX with sounds.

Remember, your new HUD will be automagically delivered to you when it's available. Just wear your current HUD (or log in while wearing it).
